Personal demons
While we’re on the subject of suicide lyrics… Who came up with that phrase “personal demons”? I hear it all the time and I’m sick of it. Some rock star becomes a drug addict and goes in & out of rehab and VH1 says he was “battling his own personal demons”. I have sympathy for drug addicts, but let’s call it what it is. That phrase has become way overused.
Do you ever hear someone say “See that homeless guy asking for change so he can buy heroin? He’s battling his own personal demons.” No, only famous people get to battle demons. That bum is just a junkie. Maybe if he knew how to play guitar then demons would see fit to visit him.
If I worked for an insurance company, I’d be all over this. “I’m sorry sir, but we can’t pay for your hospital stay because your insurance plan doesn’t cover demons. You should have subscribed to our ‘Constantine’ plan, which will cover both personal demons and demons of the Third Hierarchy.”
And why do these personal demons always make you do drugs, sleep with hookers, and trash hotel rooms? Is that the best they can come up with after thousands of years? How come you never see a rock star or actor become addicted to doing long division? Get a little more creative guys.
