Anyone need to haul something?

While my car’s in the shop, I had to get a rental car. The Enterprise guy says he can give me a Silverado for the same price as a full sized car. He points out the window at the vehicle. Now I don’t know much about different models of trucks or SUV’s. I basically just group them all into a “big vehicles” category. So I don’t know what the hell a Silverado is. I can only see the front end of it from where I was. So I look at it and figure okay, it’s some sort of truck or SUV.

I rented an SUV for two weeks while I was in Nashville on business and it was kind of fun. I never drive big vehicles so it was something different. I think it also helped being that high up because I wasn’t familiar with the area and I could see better that way. (For those SUV-haters out there: I only rented it because they were out of cars so it was an SUV or nothing.)

So anyway, I think “it might be fun to drive a truck for a couple of days” so I tell the man that it’s not really the same price as the car because I’ll have to pay more in gas, but sure I’ll take it.

We fill out the paperwork then he takes me out to the truck and now I get a good look at it. That thing’s a monster! The cab has a back seat. See picture above - I didn’t get a chance to take an actual picture but that’s the model I have, the 2006 Chevy Silverado Z71 Off-Road. (I have not gone off any roads.)

The Enterprise guy was nice and even though it had 3/4 tank of gas, he said if I brought it back with 1/2 tank that would be good enough. I don’t have much driving I have to do, so I think I may be able to pull this off without paying for any gas.

I felt a little silly hopping down out of that thing with my little leather laptop case last night. I felt like I should have, I don’t know, a toolbox or be wearing a cowboy hat or something. At the least, I should have spit on the ground after exiting the truck.

But I was right, it is fun to drive it around for a couple of days. My apologies if I drive over anyone’s pet or small child without realizing it.

We bought the PT Cruiser off my aunt’s estate when we moved back. Normally, I wouldn’t have looked at that particular car, but we couldn’t beat the price, and the car is good shape. At a stop light yesterday I was surrounded on all four sides by SUVs, and my eyes weren’t even at their door-handle level. (I know, I’m short, but still!) Pretty freaky. I can’t get over how big the cars are here. It’s really hard to see around them in parking lots, too.

Do you remember my little Dodge Charger? I’d really be blown off the road in that nowadays.

Oh, you should have kicked the tires or something when you get out of your truck. . . perhpas swearing or making a Bush-like comment would help as well. Or better yet, you should have off-roaded it on Park Ave, just because it was possible.

I remember your Dodge Charger. You wouldn’t have to worry about parking with that thing because you could park it between the tires of an SUV.

As far as Bush, if I had thought of him, I may well have swore and kicked the tires.
